4年前に主人（BENIHANA 創業者ロッキー青木）が亡くなってから、久しぶりに日本に来ました。私は元々国際ビジネスコンサルタントをしていまして、BENIHANA が中国に進出するということで、そこでロッキーさんと知り合いました。その後、彼は「コンサルタントフィーを払うのは高いから結婚した、結婚すれば高いフィーはかからないからね」などと言っていましたが（笑）
I’ve came back to Japan 4 years ago after my husbend (BENIHANA founder:Rocky Aoki) passed away. I’ve used to be an international business consultant when I met Rocky. They were expanding their business to China at that time. After that, he said that he married me just because he didn’t wanted to pay high consultant fees. (Laugh. Laugh at the joke)

もう一つ大切なことは、「先を読む」ポラロイドも倒産しました。この会社の失敗は、デジタル化に参入しなかった。あれだけのネットワークのあるポラロイドでも倒産するんです。
つまり、５年くらいは、世の中がどういう方向に進むのかを見る目も必要です。どういうふうに変わっていくのか、そこを読む力ですね。 今回もタイにいくのに30時間くらいかかっているんです。アブダビにもドバイにもありますし、1年に１度は顔を出さないといけないということで行くわけですが大変な労力なんです。それで、最近は会社に大きなテレビを入れて、スカイプを使って毎日海外のフランチャイザーと連絡をとります。顔を見て話すのと電話では全然違うとわかったんです。毎朝、犬と散歩をするんですけど、そのまま会社でスカイプするんです。（笑）このことによって、いろいろ話が出来ます。素晴らしいテクノロジーだと思っています。今回は、4年ぶりに日本に来て話をするのも４年ぶりなんですけど、いま、KEIKOは、BENIHANAはどうしているのか、ということを少しでもわかっていただければということで参りました。

We came up with the name “BENIHANA” when we heard the story about Rocky’s father. He found a small flower in the left over wastes lands of the Second World War. He then set up a Teppan-Yaki shop there and named it “BENIHANA”. “BENIHANA” as we know it today has many fusion food such as a combination of Okonomiyaki and Sushi, but when Rocky came to the US and started his first shop, there weren’t many customers that were interested in Teppan-Yaki. At the time, he could only send 800 dollars from Japan to his establishment. And then, his mother came to New York to work. You thought one parent being right at your doorstep was a handful enough, even his father came to America as well. When he finally encountered his fuming parents, he was met with bullets of criticism. His father suggested to Rocky that he should do some performances while cooking as-well. Hence the currant performances you see when you go to “BENIHANA”.
